Text of My Speech

The famous NBA all-star Michael Jordan once voiced, “Respect is earned when no one is looking.” In my life respect is important, and this quote tells me that to earn respect, you must always be respectful, no matter where you are or what you may be doing. Hi I’m Logan W and I’m going to tell you about my goals as a freshman this year.

This year as a freshman I have quite a few different goals. One of the athletic goals is to join the BHS basketball team. As long as I practice hard all the time, make myself look good in front of the coaches, and do exactly what the coaches tell me to do, I should make the team. Another athletic goal I have for the year is to dunk a basketball. At the moment I can only hit the rim, but as long as I do lots of different excercises to strengthen my legs, my other jump muscles, and in general just jump a lot I'm sure I'll dunk by the end of the year.

Some academic goals I have for the year are pretty straight forward. I really want to get straight A’s this year, and as long as I study for tests and do all my homework I should be fine. Another goal I have is to read a lot more since I don't really read to often, it'd be nice to enjoy reading a little more. I’m also hoping to learn to read and write faster, but I’m sure this goal should be pretty easy being in this English class.

This year I also have some social and family goals. Some social goals are to make lots of new friends, to get to better know my current friends, and to just plainly hang out with my friends a little more than I currently do. I plan to make new friends by being nice to everyone I meet, and I also am hoping to hang out with my current friends more by taking breaks from basketball on the weekends, and even by going to the park a little more with my complete basketball friends. Also, I am hoping that this year I can try to get in less trouble with my family by doing everything I need to do, do all my chores, keep my grades up, and to be nicer to my sister.

I have a couple goals for my later years in life too. The college I’d like to go to is UCLA, but the only way I’m getting there is with straight A’s and a scholarship. I also plan to get my masters degree there. After college, my dream job would definitely be to be in the NBA, but if things don't work out with that I'd like to become a basketball coach, however if I dream big, practice hard, and never give up, I'm sure I could make the NBA. Well now you know my goals as a freshman and beyond.
